TV and .......................

Last Tuesday we had NBC 10 come to The Mushroom Cap to interview me for a segment about
Discovering Out Town. I wasn't sure when it would air but it did on Thursday night. Apparently it aired again this morning . We had folks from Philadelphia visit The Mushroom Cap today who had seen it. The segment included Talula's Table and also a business in West Chester.
How lucky to have been chosen! It did just what we wanted it to - bring people to town. I have not seen the segment but found a short clip showing Claudia Rivero tasting my new mushroom snack that was on the NBC 10 Morning Show at 11 on Thursday, July 9th. Can't seem to find the clip that made the news.

Tomorrow a production company is coming to town to visit The Mushroom Cap on their way from Maine to the Florida Keys. A film is being produced about America's Number 1 Highway - Route 1. I wonder how The Mushroom Cap was chosen? Might ask that question tomorrow!

Penn State Great Valley event

Today was a busy day getting ready for an event that Penn State Great Valley was hosting. A Taste of Wyeth featuring a presentation by Victoria Wyeth, granddaughter of Andrew Wyeth was a very well attended event. Before the presentation attendees enjoyed a wine tasting provided by Chadds Ford Winery. To go with the Wine Tasting a few of Chester County's food specialty shops were asked to provide "tastings" of their products. The Mushroom Cap was suggested by Greg from the CCCVB to be one of those shops. We chose to serve our Italian Mushroom Dip stuffed medium white (picked this morning)mushrooms. Everyone who had one wanted a second. What a difference a very fresh picked mushroom makes! We also served our Roasted Portabella Pasta Sauce on small bread slices. Another big hit!

This was a great night for promoting The Mushroom Cap, showing our Mushroom Cap labeled products as well as our "Shiitake Happens" gift basket, and promoting mushrooms as Pennsylvania's No. 1 Cash Crop all along telling everyone that we are located on State Street in Kennett Square!

Snackin' 'Shrooms

Get ready to taste snackin' 'shrooms! I'm working on them - might be one of those snacks that are really good for you!

Does anyone read my blog?

Been a while since I've written - Since the last post we did have a bus tour visit "The Mush-Room" - That was Thursday, June 18th. A Perkiomen group from Bucks County - The Pearl Buck volunteers. They were great - expected something different but all left with a smile on their face! Anyone interested in our industry video? Those who watched learned a lot about Chester County Mushroom Growing. Mr. bus driver was so nice -he will be sure to tell the Perkiomen groups coming to Longwood Gardens to make a stop in downtown KSQ. This picture shows only a few of the 31 passengers!

Weather was not good. After the bus left the shop we immediately closed to be on our way to the Jimmy Buffett concert in Camden, NJ. Now that's another story! Great time - good friends - past our bedtime but who cared? And we didn't get wet!

No Show Bus Tour

Wonder what happened to the bus tour from Philadelphia that was coming to KSQ today at 3:30pm?
A little disappointing to say the least, especially when one prepares for a group with tastings and a cooler full of mushrooms. We called your cell phone Jerry - three times this past week just to check to see if you were coming. We stayed open an extra hour waiting. A lesson learned - must ask for a confirmation phone call one week prior to trip.

Good to stay open later - had a few more sales for the day!

Mushrooms and Your Health

Mushrooms truly are "Nature's Hidden Treasure". They have been called a "superfood". There is a saying - "Eat Mushrooms and Live Longer" - Could that be? Mushrooms have been around for thousands of years and we, in America, are just now learning the benefits of these fabulous fungi! I've included a link to the nutrition research. Take time to read it. Explore the website - learn all about mushrooms. Ask yourself, "what can mushrooms do for me?" You may be surprised.

Two more 3rd grade classes from Mary D Lang

Our 2nd day of visits from the 3rd grade students at Mary D Lang Elem. School yesterday was great. They had a nice day to walk uptown - weather was perfect as was the day before. What has more potassium than a banana? A mushroom - this is just one of the facts that is learned in our 10 minute video. One other fact is that PA's No. 1 crop is mushrooms - so important to the economy of PA. There is so much to learn about the mushroom industry in our area. Both classes today were attentive. Some tasted our mushrooms with ranch dressing, some tasted the mushrooms without and some did not taste at all. All classes were given a portabella mushroom with instructions on how to make a spore print. That should be a fun project. The morning class selected the Oyster Mushroom as their favorite and the afternoon class chose the Maitake!
Teachers, parents and students - thank you - we hope everyone enjoyed the trip as much as we enjoyed having you!
